The judge failed to follow the law and demonstrated a lack of professional competence in the law by not following the correct procedures for selecting and seating a jury in a civil proceeding. In addition, the judge used a jury verdict form in a civil proceeding that was applicable only to a criminal proceeding, and failed to correct this error when it was brought to his attention through an objection from a litigant.
