As a result of a personal relationship with an attorney involved in a case pending before his court, the judge used his position to advance the attorney's private interests, allowed the attorney to convey to opposing counsel and his client that she was in a special position to influence the judge, and engaged in improper ex parte communications with the attorney about the merits of the pending matter.
