11/18/2004

Using county letterhead, the judge wrote a letter to a U.S. Senator regarding a private dispute. The letterhead included the judge's full name and title, listed the names of the county commissioners, and was signed by the judge with the designation of "County Judge." The bottom of the letter bore the statement, "Not printed or mailed at government expense." In his explanation to the Commission, the judge stated that he thought he would be in compliance with the Code of Judicial Conduct by adding the phrase, "Not printed or mailed at government expense."
